Frost... Taste aside, the Council Chamber at Newcastle Civic Centre is one of the most lavishly furnished spaces in the city. The walls are Cedar of Lebanon (a number of the timbers used in the building are now thought to be extinct - literally priceless), the floors are specially sourced Swedish green slate. Note also the exquisite (and pricey) marble door frames and skirting used elsewhere. This isn't a provocation! The building is a wonderful symbol of the spirited (I daren't say principled) ambition of the region's politicians once upon a time. Lets hope that same spirt can be reignited in the face of what this government threatens to do.
Well done people! They've been so scared you were going to do this during the demos, they'd surrounded the Civic Centre with Police
ReplyDeleteAmazing. Solidarity xxx
ReplyDeleteWell done, and solidarity. You could do a bit of redecorating in there while you are at it. Its horrible.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to the occupation. This is exactly the place that actions need to target; the symbolic and effective centre of democracy!
